When was minder filmed

In script-writing, Griffiths found a vocation and branched out into writing television plays and film scripts, often in the crime thriller genre and incorporating the undercurrent of dark humour, incisive wit and cleverly crafted dialogue that became his forte. He was at home in the sleazy aspects of his plots, from horse-race fixing in The Racing Game to his BBC-1 Play for Today episode Dinner at the Sporting Club involving rigged boxing contests — a topic he would revisit a few years later in a Minder episode.

Coincidentally, in the story, it was John Thaw from The Sweeney who gave an exceptional performance as the boxing manager who suffers the indignity of seeing his prize boxer forced to lose a fight for financial gain. In The Grissom Gang he took an essentially violent plot and interspersed a sprinkling of humour — an approach that he also adopted later with the early episodes of Minder.

I like observing them, wondering how they make out. They were alive; they crackled with a sort of crazy energy. Around that time, Euston Films had recently taken on script executive Linda Agran to develop its access to quality scripts. When Waterman saw the initial scripts and story lines he was particularly taken by the underlying humour and needed no second thoughts about accepting the part. The task then fell to producers George Taylor and Lloyd Shirley at Euston Films to cast the supporting role of Arthur Daley, the smooth-talking used-car salesman, always on the lookout for a quick quid.

Eventually executive producer Verity Lambert reminded the other decision makers that George Cole had already made a name for himself playing a spiv and should be well-suited to play this one. That apparently swayed them and he was offered the part. In a career spanning over 40 years, he had already become well-known as the smooth-talking spiv Flash Harry in the highly popular St. Born in London on 22 April , Cole made his stage debut at the age of 14 in the revival of the musical show The White Horse Inn.

The following year he was cast as a young wartime evacuee in the movie Cottage to Let starring the legendary comedy actor Alastair Sim. Pages The second and third parts were made in collaboration with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on location in Sydney and the outback town of Broken Hill in New South Wales.

The locations were spectacular and provided an interesting diversion for British viewers. Unfortunately, the three episodes were written by three different people and, although entertaining, the single story that came out of them lacked much of the crispness that the audience had come to expect from Minder. Minder first appeared on Australian television at pm on 27 May when Gunfight at the O. Arthur would set up the deals which usually involved a hefty profit for himself and a small one for Terry.

All this, of course, without Terry's knowledge. In the course of their dealings, which usually strayed ever-so-slightly on the wrong side of legal, the twosome would try to avoid the clutches of the law as represented by local officers Chisholm, Rycott and Jones. Cole and Waterman hit it off right from the start with a wonderful on screen chemistry that was an instant hit with the critics if not the viewers.

Script Executive Linda Agran had to commission new scripts quickly. In Leon won an award for Minder despite not having been involved. This was said to have been a jolt to his pride and he resolved to make it his own again and slowly returned to writing. A revival, without Cole, starring Shane Richie as another Daley nephew, failed to win over the public in , confirming their lasting love for the original. Type above and press Enter to search.

Blu Ray … where are you? Plenty of extras not yet released still out there I have them in my private collection of Minder goodies, just get in touch. Great programme but disappointing boxset…no Thames logo and no commercial break bumpers.

Looks like you just copied the ITV Freemantle versions. Blu ray edition of Minder please!! And also whilst on the Waterman subject , please release the rest of The Sweeney series too.. One of my all time favourite shows but could never get back into it after Terry left. Great article, I love the show. Would be great to see a remastered uncut Minder Blu Ray , how about a season one box set or a much needed Minded on the Orient Express to test the water.

God knows why they were chopped out in the first place. Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
