When was toyota sienna redesign

The XSE gets dark-finish inch wheels and more aggressive-looking front and rear bumpers. Among the Platinum model's features are a head-up display, a degree camera view, an onboard vacuum cleaner, and even a refrigerated compartment. Other standard and optional family-oriented features for the Sienna range include 18 cupholders, four-zone climate control, seven USB ports, in-car Wi-Fi, a rear entertainment system, power sliding doors and liftgate, and a voice-amplification system to help the driver talk to people in the back.

A full complement of driver-assistance features is standard equipment, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automated emergency braking.

Toyota says it reworked the dashboard, center stack, and center-console setup to eliminate the buslike driving position that its customers had complained about in previous Siennas. A "bridge console" connects the dashboard with the center console between the front seats and offers storage compartments beneath.

From the instrument panel forward, it is very similar, though aft of that, things get substantially different.

This new and very safe foundation helped company engineers push the floor around 1. Extended-length grab handles aid in this area as well.

Not everyone will love the Sienna's styling. It has a lot of grille -- like, a lot -- and some other unusual elements. With this overhaul, designers are trying to give the new model added street presence, especially a more athletic stance. For SUV-like proportions, the hood is raised, and the A-pillars are shifted rearward.

The vehicle's roofline also tapers toward the back, and there's more tumblehome how much the side windows angle inward at the top , a move that adds extra style while improving crosswind resistance.

The Sienna's looks are certainly controversial, but by contrast, nearly everyone will appreciate this minivan's interior. There are interesting materials inside, and the overall design is highly functional, with plenty of storage space and some clever features. One of the most interesting and novel cabin elements is the Sienna's new bridge-like center console, which extends between the front seats.

There's a large bin underneath and a large cubby on the dashboard, a change made possible in part by a new gear selector. Paradoxically, when tucked behind the wheel, this van manages to seem both cozy and airy at the same time, an unexpected feeling, but a good one.

Toyota engineers have ditched the outgoing Sienna's V6. In its place is a familiar hybrid powertrain, one built around a naturally aspirated 2.

With a small battery pack mounted under the front seats and a couple of motor-generators functioning that do double-duty as a continuously variable transmission, this combination delivers a respectable horsepower. Yes, that's about 40 fewer ponies than you get in either a Honda Odyssey or Chrysler Pacifica , but the trade-off is dramatically enhanced fuel economy. This Toyota is expected to average around 33 miles per gallon in mixed driving, significantly more than its conventionally powered rivals and even a few mpg better than the plug-in hybrid Pacifica.

The model also features an EV mode that allows you to drive very short distances purely on electricity. For extra confidence in challenging conditions, the Toyota Sienna can be had with all-wheel drive. However, I would expect to see new Sienna minivans at dealerships in the September-October time frame. Buyers will have many different colors to choose from in Some are traditional while some are bold and vibrant. People who enjoy incredible fuel economy will appreciate Sienna Hybrid.

This is rated at either 35mpg or 36mpg depending on whether you get all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. Plus, Toyota Sienna is a minivan that thrives in slippery weather and road conditions because of its on-demand all-wheel drive system. Having optimal traction allows families to have peace of mind knowing this system is available in their ride.

If they truly want to appeal to "weekend campers" they need to make those 2nd row seats removable again. Natalia Kislitsina wrote on July 17, - pm Permalink. T wrote on July 17, - pm Permalink. Excellent ride. Loving the Sienna. Mark wrote on July 17, - pm Permalink. I just sold my Sienna that I bought new. With k miles on it, it was, hands down, the best car I have ever owned. It drove smoother at k than my Odyssey. The engine was butter smooth with zero oil burn. I did service by the book and replaced worn items like brakes and bushings.

But otherwise it was stunningly reliable. The worst event was a front wheel bearing failure at K. That necessitated an entire new hub that had to come form Japan. It was out of commission for a month but I was more bitter at Toyota for not having the part than I was that my van needed it.

For parts sometimes it's best to order from Rockauto and go to the local trusty mechanic shop. Fortunately, I have a couple that specializes in Japanese imports. Although these cars are mostly made in the USA, more than Ford. But they will always be called Japanese imports.

Tried a Sienna with leather seats Loved all the other updates, including the hybrid feature but Toyota really lost me with the lack of comfort of the seating choices! I travel by car alot, so comfortable seating was a key "must have" to purchase the Sienna. Toyota did not deliver that, so I did not purchase the van. Hope they bring back the comfort captain chairs in the Sienna model! Mitch wrote on July 21, - pm Permalink.

I checked out an XLE at a dealership. I don't remember the front and second row seat comfort, but I was astonished as to how uncomfortable the 3rd row was. I could see if it was an SUV
